Flight Attendant Information

A Flight Attendant?

Hi. I'm fifteen-years-old and am thinking that I want to be a flight attendant. I love working with people, traveling, and am not afraid of really really hard work! But I can't seem to find adequate information on the internet. Are their any special courses that I should take in college? Any certain skills I should work on? Any tips you'd like to give me? I'd really appreciate it!!!

  1. Hi, Check the indervidual websites like British Airways. Usually you dont attually have to have any formal qualifications and if you do they are the basic in maths and english. I also know you have to be able to swim 25m un-aided. If all else fails check on the websites of the airlines for phone numbers and just ask. Hope this helps
  2. Would you even need to go to college? Maybe you can try e-mailing or writing to a handful of airlines to see if they'll send you some kind of information pack or something.
  3. There seem to be lots of info online. Just google "flight attendant training"
  4. I've worked for Delta Airlines for 8 years. What I've seen is pissed off, underpaid, screwed over, over worked women and men who can't use their "flight benefits" because the planes are so fricken full that there are no seats. You like working with people? These people (the passengers) are the most ignorant, under-appreciating people I've ever been around. I've seen flight attendants bend over backwards for people and they just get a nasty tone anyway. But, if this doesn't turn you off... you have to live fairly close to a major city, which means, you are going to be in nasty traffic. All the time you sit in the gate during a storm or something, you don't get paid for. The pay sucks too. But, if that don't turn you off. You may have an unruly passenger, or a drunk passenger to deal with or a sick passenger that may puke on you. Not to mention you, more than likely, will have to work with flaming gay male flight attendants that accually think they are women. But, if you still want this "glamorous" job. Learning a different language is a plus especially for over seas travel. You don't really need college. If you know someone that could talk to someone higher, that would be a good thing! Good luck but, if you were my daughter, I would try to turn you on to something else.
  5. Hello: I was a flight attendant for many years and in many ways I did enjoy the career. It is not for everyone!! However, more than anything, I hate sitting at a desk all day, so the constant 'on-the-go' appealed to me. The flight benefits aren't as easily used as they used to be, because so many airlines are putting smaller, regional jets on their routes (and they are almost always full). I only had one year of college, plus a couple of years of previous employment when I applied. You don't have to have college, and you definetely don't need to waste your money on private 'flight attendant schools' as each airline has their own training course, tuition free, once you are accepted. They mainly want poised people with good people-skills and/or customer service. Good luck to you.
