- Um... in case you haven't been following the news... at LEAST 10 airlines HAVE GONE OUT OF BUSINESS just this year alone. The airlines have laid off nearly 100,000 EMPLOYEES of which at least 50,000 are FLIGHT ATTENDENTS. Over 400 small airports NO LONGER HAVE SERVICE.. there has been a number of mergers... the latest one that looks like it's going to happen is British Air with Quantas. Considering that airlines are UNION SHOPS and they need to RECALL any laid off employees before they can hire new ones and there is not indication the airlines will recover any time in the near future... just WHERE do you plan to GET A JOB as a flight attendent... which is a job you have to be TWENTY ONE (21) to be HIRED FOR in the first place.
- You must first decide which airline you'd like to fly with, then apply by contacting their employment office. They'll send you an application to fill out. You mail it back when completed. If they like what they see on your application they will invite you to an initial interview. After that, you may be invited back for a second interview, which is good. After the second interview they usually decide who their new class of flight attendants will be and they'll send you an invitation to come work for them. There is usually about a four to six week training program you must pass before you are actually flying.
- when you will be 22, i would like to suggest to you these airlines... http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com/ :)
- There are few airlines that hire f/as at the age of 18. That being said, I'm with the first poster. Finding a job as an f/a any time soon is going to be EXTREMELY difficult. The airlines aren't doing so well right now. They are furloughing employees left and right, and reducing the amount of flights they do. Before they can hire again, they have to call back all of the furloughed f/as first. Where I'm at, we just furloughed over 1500 f/as, with the longest furlough being 2 years. Even after the 1500 furloughs, we still have a surplus of f/as, and the reserves are hardly flying at all. It's usually the smaller regional airlines that will hire at 18. I suggest you wait it out until you are 21. Hopefully by then the airlines will be hiring again, and you will have many more options at that point. Do some research. Find the "career" sections on airlines websites. If they are hiring, it will say they are. They will also have info on requirements.
- You can't. US airlines requite that all FA's be 21, for various reasons. Serving alcohol is one of them.
- If you want to be a flight attendant, do it! Yeah the industry isn't the best to be in right now, but your young enough were you have lots of time to make many career moves! I've been flying for about 5 years and I still love it! I'm 25 and still have lots of things I want to do with my life, so don't let how the industry is doing decided whether or not you want to do it. Just make sure you have a back up plan! But not many airlines hire 18 year olds. I started out with regional flying and they usually hire at 18. Every airline is just like applying for a regular job but when it comes to the interview process, they want to see that you can talk to people easily and are very personable. There is no schooling that you need so don't let those "Flight Attendant Schools" trick you into thinking you need schooling. The training that you will need to go through will be provided by the company in which you get hired with. Hope this helps!!!
