Flight Attendant Information

So my friend and I are planning on moving to NYC.?

in about 4 years. We are in the process of getting jobs. Now until we move we are going to work and maybe community college. He is in fireman academy right now. And I am planning on becoming a flight a attendant. And there is possibly a third person going with us. So my question is, is it possible for us to live in NYC comfortably? I wanted to shoot for Manhattan, but I'm not sure anymore. Comments?

  1. Manhattan, no. Realistically you would be living in Queens, New Jersey, or the northern suburbs. Please come visit -- then you will have a better sense of what it's like to live here.
  2. have you looked at housing? there is no way you could live in manhattan unless you've all got some big trust funds.
  3. If you work really hard, and have a good amount of money saved up, then you could live in Manhattan. You also have to have good credit and guarantors. It is pretty difficult, especially if you have never visited. I would recommend coming to visit a few times before moving. Check out neighborhoods etc. The difficult thing most people dont know about apts etc in New York is the broker system. To find a (good) place, you have to get a broker, like buying a house anywhere else. But they come with a fee, typically 12-15% the annual rent. Then you also have to pay first months rent and 1 addl months rent on top of that for a security deposit. So for your first month, to move in, you usually pay 3 1/2 times the monthly rent. I would recommend visiting, then maybe even finding a sublet or a short term rental, possibly even in Brooklyn or Queens. Give yourself a little time to learn neighborhoods and what to expect for living accommodation. You dont want to pay a ton to get a place then decide to move 6 months to a year later. Good luck.
