- Unfortunately, now is not the time to be looking for a job as a flight attendant. Most airlines are currently furlouging (laying off) their F/As. Before they can hire again, they have to call back all the furloughed employees, and give them the opportunity to come back to work. It may be quite some time before that happens. Even if you do come across a position, you will be at the bottom of the list. Seniority is everything in the airline industry. If you got hired, and then that company decided they needed to do a furlough, you would most likely be one of the first to go. That aside, look at airline websites under the career section. There will usually be a posting there if they are looking for people. Usually you go through a few different interviews. At least one of them will probably be a group interview. They want to know you can communicate and work well with others. That you are friendly and outgoing, etc. As for training, it varies by airline. Somewhere between 5-10 weeks. During training you will learn about the business, different services, different aircraft types that the airline uses, FAA regulations, emergency procedures such as evacuations, decompressions, first aid, CPR/AED, scheduling (reserve, lineholder, bidding), and a lot more. There will be tests and quizzes, and you need to pass with high scores to make it through. The training can be a bit intense, but so long as you stay focused, you will be fine. All the stuff you learn in training pretty much becomes second nature after a bit of time out on the line. Good luck!
- Hi, I just stopped being a flight attendant a few months back. My email is airman_labranche@hotmail.com if you need more information. I still work for the airline I flew for, but just in a different capacity.
