Airline Pilot Career at Middle Age? Help!!! My husband is 45 years old and recently decided that he wants to start a new career as an airline pilot. I'm desperately trying to dissuade him because 1. The cost of training to become an airline pilot would bankrupt us 2. He is too old to start this career (he has never flown a plane before)! He is middle aged and I'm really worried he is in his midlife crisis (he denies it). 3. No airline company will hire him at this age. This fixed idea of his had caused us a lot of grief lately and I just don't know what to do anymore! Please help with good advice based on facts so that I can show him the responses. Hopefully this will help him come back to his senses.
Helicopter vs. Airline pilot, which career choice is the best? Which has the most growth potential? Which pilots have the better lifestyle? What are some good resources for someone trying to decide on what direction to take their aviation career? I'm mainly interested in the general differences in lifestyle between professional helicopter pilots and fixed wing pilots. For example: I know airline pilots typically work 15 days or so out of the month. But I haven't been able to find the same info on helicopter pilots. Hearing from profession pilots in both fields would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering if anyone knows what's the best way to see if piloting is right for me, assuming I meet all of the requirements necessary to become a pilot. Also, is there any difference or benefits from getting experience as a pilot flying in the airforce or just flying from some random pilot school. Thanks

Is being a pilot a good career field to go into? I've always loved airplanes. For my career, I want to do something that involves them. I have began to have the desire to become a pilot, but my mom does not think it is a good idea. Currently, I am a 16 year old girl with a 4.0 gpa. If I cannot become a pilot, then I would like to do something involving airplanes. Any ideas? p.s. I have also thought about joining the Air Force or some sort of armed force
What will happen to the career of "airline pilot"? When you look at flight technology as it is today, where will airline pilots be in 25 years? There is rapidly increasing automation in airline cockpits, to the point that a plane is essentially capable of take-off and landing (the two most complicated parts of flight) all by itself, and autopilot, which serves to maintain a plane's altitude, heading, airspeed, etc. has existed for many years. With the advent of unmanned aircraft, it is becoming increasingly obvious that pilots will soon be un-needed in the capacity they are today. I'm just curious; I've been an aspiring pilot for a few years now, and it seems that by the time I actually get there, most of the actual 'piloting' will have been taken over by computers. Now, it's just a matter of getting people to trust a computer with their lives, and the pilots won't be needed anywhere. (except on the ground, to take over in the event of failure). I'm just afraid that the career will get boring, compared to what it is today.

US Air Force Pilot or Other Officer Career? I am interested in becoming a US Air Force Pilot, or some other commissioned officer career in the Air Force, and would like to know all requirements. My grandfather was a Captain and a F-4 Phantom II pilot in Vietnam. I do wear glasses, however my vision isn't terrible, I can read the computer screen very well without them. If I got LASIK, would I then be valid? I am physically fit and could probably pass the fitness portion. The only thing I struggle in is math, and maybe Spanish on occasion.
Really need help with starting a career as a pilot? here's the deal, I am 16 and want to know how I can get a job as a pilot asap. I need: Private pilot license (after 40+ hours of flight training, health exam, written test passed) Instrument rating Commercial rating I really don't know any details, or where I could get a job as a pilot. If anyone knows a lot about this, would you mind if I emailed you with any more questions? Thanks

Can I major in psychology and still have a career as a commercial pilot? It doesn't seem like a good idea, but a lot of people have told me that it doesn't really matter what you major in if you want to be a pilot as long as you have the proper training. Would majoring in psych make me less appealing for that job? Does it matter where I go to school? People have told me - including my English teacher who went to Harvard - that it doesn't really matter to people who are employing you where you got your degree as long as you got one.
